The 5-gallon (19 L) returnable water bottle is its own segment: a heavy, reusable container that must survive dozens of wash-and-refill trips. The preform, neck and cap are all different from single-serve water.
The returnable segment
Unlike single-serve PET, a 19 L bottle is collected, washed and refilled many times, so it is engineered for stiffness and repeated handling rather than minimum weight. It pairs with dispensers and a large neck.

Caps and handling
Large-format water uses a heavy-duty 55 mm closure (or the format your dispenser system expects). Handling, top-load and base design matter more here than on light bottles because the filled bottle is heavy and stacked.
Returnable life and quality
Specify the expected trip count and inspection regime up front — returnable economics depend on how many safe refills each bottle delivers. FSSC 22000 V6 food-contact validation applies to every batch.
